Life is busy and some times it is hard to get enough goodness in your day. I like to start my day with a smoothie to super charge my nutrient intake for the day. This recipe is for my grandma who recently bought a bullet after trying my smoothies while we were on holiday. She wanted to know what the health benefits were for the ingredients I was using so here it is:
Makes 1 large smoothie:
1 1/2 cups plant milk: around half your daily intake of calcium if fortified - most brands are
1 tablespoon flax-seeds (or chia seeds): daily intake of Omega 3
2 tablespoon dairy free yogurt: probiotics
1/2 cup of berries: antioxidants, ant-inflammatory, anti-cancer properties
1/4 cup frozen spinach: Iron, calcium, antioxidants
1/4 teaspoon turmeric: powerful anti-inflammatory, also anti-cancer properties
4 dates: good natural sweetener with lots of fiber
1 tablespoon hemp seeds (optional) : also omegas and protein
Add all ingredients into a bullet or blender and blend until smooth. Drink immediately (otherwise it will become very thick because of the flax seeds).
